Use this Vegan Sugar Free Cream Cheese Frosting recipe with my amazing Paleo Sugar Free Gluten Free Carrot Cake recipe. With only 3 natural ingredients, it’s easy to whip up and is completely vegan and sugar free. This creamy frosting hits the spot without using any dairy or sugar. Amazing!!!

Cream Cheese Frosting is an amazingly versatile frosting, because it's naturally not too sweet. The tang of the cream cheese balances out any cake that might be on the heavily sweet side, like a Hummingbird Cake, or a cake that might be on the heavily spiced side, like a Carrot Cake.
Why You’ll LOVE this Recipe:
- Only 3 ingredients
- Vegan
- Sugar Free
- Only sweetened with stevia
- Quick and easy to make

Ingredients for Vegan Sugar Free Cream Cheese Frosting:
- vegan cream cheese
- Spectrum Organic All-Vegetable Shortening
- liquid stevia
Notes on Ingredients:
Vegan Cream Cheese – I like the brand Violife, but there are many delicious tasting vegan cream cheese out there. The brands you get are likely to vary from region to region, so just choose one that you like the taste of and the color of (some are whiter than others which might matter or not depending on what you’re using this frosting for).
Spectrum Organic All-Vegetable Shortening – The frosting needs a fat to make it smooth and to achieve the proper spreadable frosting texture (otherwise, you’ll just be spreading cream cheese on your cake or cupcakes). Spectrum Organic All-Vegetable Shortening is made from palm oil. I try to minimize my use of palm oil, because it’s higher in saturated fat and has sustainability concerns. However, it’s really tricky making frosting without sugar or butter, and palm oil keeps the frosting as white as possible. If color is not a concern, then you can substitute Earth Balance Vegan Buttery Sticks. They are lower in saturated fat and cholesterol.
Liquid Stevia – This is the only sweetener in this recipe, and it works beautifully. Cream cheese frosting shouldn’t be overly sweet anyway, in my opinion.

How to Make Vegan Sugar Free Cream Cheese Frosting From Scratch
I don’t think there could possibly be a simpler recipe for making frosting. Just put the cream cheese, shortening, and liquid stevia in a stand mixer with a paddle attachment. Start by mixing on low. Then, crank it up to medium-high in order to whip some air into the frosting and make sure the ingredients are thoroughly combined.
Why a paddle attachment? Honestly, you can use a paddle or a whisk attachment. I’ve tried both, and I didn’t see a notable difference. I tend to use the paddle attachment for most uses in general baking (and I think it’s easier to clean!), so if I have to choose paddle vs. whisk, then I’ll always choose paddle.
If you’re not using the frosting immediately, it does need to be refrigerated. I recommend simply covering the mixing bowl with these awesome beeswax covers. Store in the refrigerator until you’re ready to use. The frosting won’t harden very much, so you can just pull it out when you’re ready to use it.
Eat and enjoy!!!
