Super fast and easy to make, this pretty pink Cherry Chocolate Smoothie is Paleo and Completey Sugar Free. It’s a healthy way to start your day with a ton of protein and fiber as well as antioxidants and nutrients like potassium.

This has got to be the shortest recipe on this site. It’s a smoothie, yes, but it’s also a really easy and healthy smoothie that feels like a total treat. It’s like having dessert for breakfast.
Confession – I don’t do great with chocolate. Or caffeine, period. If I eat chocolate after 12 pm, I am certain to be awake during the night. So, for me, the morning is the best time to eat chocolate. And since I really can’t tolerate it everyday, it’s an even more special treat when I do have it.
So I save it for the mornings after I’ve had a rough night of sleep, and that delicious Cherry Chocolate Smoothie is a true silver lining of bad sleep. It’s like, “I’m so exhausted… but ooohhh, I get to have a Cherry Chocolate Smoothie, YAY!”
You can use fresh or frozen cherries in this recipe, but I always keep a bag of pitted frozen cherries in my freezer now just for making this smoothie. Recently I have become a huge advocate of frozen berries, because they don’t go bad as fast as fresh berries, and they’re packed with nutrition because of the way they’re processed. I was wasting a lot of money on fresh berries that were going bad before I could use them. Now, there’s no money wasted with frozen berries.
Also, I have to mention that a protein smoothie is a fantastic addition to a kid’s breakfast, especially this one since it’s naturally sweet and such a pretty pink. My daughter definitely eats with her eyes, so I make sure to show her how pretty the smoothie is before putting it into a cup with a lid and straw (because, let’s be real here, cherries stain like nothing else).
This is a terrific treat for any day you need a little extra love to get the day started on the right note. I hope you enjoy it as much as my daughter and I do!

Ingredients for Cherry Chocolate Smoothie – Paleo Sugar Free:
- cherries
- almond milk
- liquid stevia
- cocoa powder
- protein powder
Notes on Ingredients:
Cherries – You can use fresh or frozen, just make sure that they are pitted. I always keep a bag of frozen cherries in my freezer just for making this smoothie.
Almond milk – Almond milk is my non-dairy milk of choice, but I also love oat milk. Using oat milk makes this smoothie NUT FREE – yay! Use whatever non-dairy milk you love best, but be sure to read the ingredients to make sure that it has no added sugars.
Cocoa powder – I use a non-alkalized cocoa powder generally for this smoothie, but since it’s not a baked good, it really doesn’t matter what kind of cocoa powder you use.
Protein powder – In order to get a pretty pink smoothie, you need to use a protein powder that is white. I love Orgain Unflavored Collagen + Superfoods protein powder (make sure you buy the Unflavored variety if you’re on a Low FODMAP diet, because the flavored ones have some High FODMAP ingredients). It doesn’t thicken a lot, but it’s super smooth, and collagen is fantastic for keeping the gut healthy in addition to providing a huge punch of protein.

How to Make Cherry Chocolate Smoothie From Scratch
It’s the easiest recipe ever – especially if you’re using frozen cherries that are already pitted. Just put everything in the blender and turn it on. Any blender will work just fine, but I am a total convert to the Nutribullet. I love how little space it takes up, and the price is great. We actually bought two, so that we have 4 blender cups. I can make a different smoothie for each family member without having to do a bunch of washing in-between.
That’s it. An easy and healthy way to start your day without any added sugars and with a ton of protein to keep you going all morning.
